Hi David,

To see how much space the Local Time Machine backups are consuming, click the Apple icon on the menu bar, click About This Mac, and click the Storage heading.
The “Backups” category here represents your local snapshots.

You can simply turn off Time Machine in its preference pane, under System Preferences.
Turn it back on, or select "Back Up Now" in the title bar icon for TM, when you wish it to sync with your TC.

Alternatively, you can also disable Local Snapshots as well, if you don't want to turn off Time Machine. If you want to shrink your Mac’s disk partition, create a full disk backup, or start installing a massive game or other piece of software that needs a lot of disk space available, those local snapshots can get in the way.
Here’s how to purge them.
If you opt to disable Time Machine entirely, your Mac will remove those local snapshots, too. But this isn’t necessary, and you probably don’t want to do it this way.

Just enter the below command in Terminal:
sudo tmutil disablelocal

This disables the “local snapshots” feature in Time Machine. After a moment or two, your Mac will automatically purge all the local snapshots from your startup disk, giving you back all that free space. Your Mac will never create local snapshots again, unless you run another command.

Also keep in mind that there might be a few files you can delete, but don't be misled by the classification "other".
"Other" just means every other file that doesn't fall into the other categories. Most of it is system files, and other operating system and configuration files that are critical.

Also you can do one more thing.

Quick Cleanup is a set of four tools to easily gain back lost drive space on your Mac.

To use Quick Cleanup:
  • Launch MacReviver.
  • Click Quick Cleanup.
  • Click Start Scan.
  • MacReviver will now scan the different areas of your Mac.
  • You should then see the Cleanup scan results for your Mac. Note the Total Junk Size that you’ll be recovering.
  • Click Remove Selected to clean the selected areas of your Mac.
I hope this helps in deleting those backups successfully.

Regards,
Lokesh
