Hi Brian,

You could also try to turn off Hybrid Sleep :
  1. At the command prompt run as administrator, type powercfg.exe /hibernate off
  2. Start menu > type Power options
  3. In the left pane, open the link labeled Change when the computer sleeps and then open the link Change advanced power settings.
  4. Under the Advanced Sleep options, expand the Sleep tree and turn off Hybrid Sleep.
  5. Press OK.
  6. Reboot.

For issue of links not working in Internet Explorer, follow below steps:

1. Reset Default Programs

Open the in-built Set Default Programs Associations window and make sure that IE is set as the default program for all the links and similar stuff.
To do this:
  • Open Start Menu, search for Default Programs and hit Enter.
  • This opens the Default Programs window. Click on Set Your Default Programs
  • In the resulting window (the Set Default Programs window), click on Internet Explorer and then, on Choose Defaults For This Program
  • This will open up Set Program Associations window. Click against Select All to select all types being displayed.
  • Just to confirm that you are on the right window, you will be seeing html, mht, htm, mhtml and similar other file extensions.
  • Once you are done with selection, click on Save
  • You will be back on the Set Default Programs window.
  • Click on OK to close the window.

I hope this helps.

Regards,
Lokesh

Maximum PC has written a great article on how to turn off Hybrid Sleep here: http://maximumpcguides.com/windows-7/turn-off-hybrid-sleep-in-windows-7/ Please let me know if this works for you. With Internet explorer, what happens when you try a different browser like Google Chrome or Firefox. You could try uninstalling Internet Explorer from the Control Panel and then reinstall.

Hmm strange. This might be a hardware limit of your laptop. What model computer do you have?

How are you trying to turn on Hybrid sleep Brian? Are you using a desktop or a laptop? Why are you trying to use Hybrid sleep? As for Internet Explorer, I would recommend making sure you are using the latest version and if that does not work try disabling your current internet security software temporarily to see if that allows you to click on links.
