.imz File Extension

Developer: Gilles Vollant
File type: WinImage Compressed Disk Image File
You're here because you have a file that has a file extension ending in .imz. Files with the file extension .imz can only be launched by certain applications. It's possible that .imz files are data files rather than documents or media, which means they're not meant to be viewed at all.

what is a .imz file?

A WinImage compressed disk image file is stored with encoding specifications and integrated with compression standards proprietary to Gilles Vollant, and these WinImage compressed disk image files can be created using the WinImage application. A WinImage compressed disk image file is saved in the IMZ format and is affixed with the .imz extension, and these IMZ files are used as the output format of the WinImage software. The content of these IMZ files may include the entire file structure of a hard disk or optical disk, and these IMZ files can be mounted as a virtual hard disk or a virtual optical drive to access the data stored in the IMZ file. The compression specifications implemented into an IMZ file can reduce the actual size of all files and folders stored in the IMZ file, promoting quicker and more convenient distribution of large files and folders on the Web or through offline channels via DVDs, CDs or other external data storage devices. Gilles Vollant developed the WinImage application for computers running on Microsoft Windows-based systems.

how to open a .imz file?

Gilles Vollant WinImage

Gilles Vollant WinImage

Gilles Vollant WinImage is a shareware program that can be used to copy disks as images, and this software also has an integrated set of features that can allow users to create, view and edit supported disk image formats. It can reproduce data from partitions of physical drives like USB data storage devices, CD-ROMs, internal hard disks, VHDs and floppy disks, as well as from entire directory libraries (Linux, ISO, DMF, FAT, NTFS, VHD). The data included in the disk image can then be viewed and accessed from a virtual drive. From the image, files can be extracted, formats changed, new indexes added, and the image itself can be defragmented. WinImage can be used to create programs that remove viruses or customized boot disks. Several functions can also be automated through its Batch Assistant function. It can also serve as a backup for the user’s hard disk. WinImage is available in versions that are suitable for Windows 95/98, and Windows NT/2000/XP/2003 and displays the Windows interface. Gilles Vollant WinImage is shared on the website of the Association of Software Professionals and may be used on trial for 30 days.

a word of warning

Be careful not to rename the extension on .imz files, or any other files. This will not change the file type. Only special conversion software can change a file from one file type to another.

what is a file extension?

A file extension is the set of three or four characters at the end of a filename; in this case, .imz. File extensions tell you what type of file it is, and tell Windows what programs can open it. Windows often associates a default program to each file extension, so that when you double-click the file, the program launches automatically. When that program is no longer on your PC, you can sometimes get an error when you try to open the associated file.
