IZArc

IZArc

IZarc is a proprietary file archiver developed by programmer Ivan Zahariev for Microsoft Windows. It is closed source freeware for file compression with a portable version on the application’s web site. The common compression and archive formats utilized by this application are zip, gzip, tar.gz, bzip2, 7z,iso, jar, rar, and other files with less common formats. A distinguishing feature of IZarc compared with similar tools is its ability to convert archive formats into different formats, and conversion between standard and self-extracting archives. It can be integrated seamlessly with Windows Explorer, which means the application can be used without opening its interface. IZarc can convert CD images, perform disk spanning from and to multiple diskettes or other removable media, merge or create multi-volume sets, create self-extracting archives, and repair broken archives. It also performs reconversion of self-extracting .EXE files to standard archives (UnSFX). It contains a virus scan feature to protect files and uses Rijndael - AES (256-bits) encryption for the encryption of files.

a word of warning

Be careful not to rename the extension on .gza files, or any other files. This will not change the file type. Only special conversion software can change a file from one file type to another.

what is a file extension?

A file extension is the set of three or four characters at the end of a filename; in this case, .gza. File extensions tell you what type of file it is, and tell Windows what programs can open it. Windows often associates a default program to each file extension, so that when you double-click the file, the program launches automatically. When that program is no longer on your PC, you can sometimes get an error when you try to open the associated file.
